Psychotherapy

Dr. Sophia Robinson provides psychotherapy to her clients to help them address a wide variety of issues. Some of the most common concerns adults and child clients work on are:

  • Mood – Improvements in mood management and coping skills for frequent to chronic sadness, anger, worry, anxiety, and fears/phobias
  • Stress – Reduction in and better management of stress and its related symptoms including insomnia, headache and its other physical manifestations such as the development and/or aggravation of autoimmune issues
  • Relationships – Improvements in difficulties that arise in marriages, romantic relationships, friendships, parent-child relationships, relationships with other family members, and work relationships
  • Self Esteem – Strengthening self-worth and self confidence
  • Grief Work – Assisting the healing process from losses due to death, the end of a relationship, moves and other major life changes
  • Interpersonal Boundaries – Improving boundaries and eliminating enabling and people pleasing impulses and behaviors
  • Forgiveness – Healing for emotional injuries and working on forgiveness

In psychotherapy, Dr. Robinson will gently, but thoroughly explore her client’s current concerns for which they are seeking assistance and relief. She will expertly help her client find long standing issues that may be affecting their current situation and will assist them in processing these long standing, historical events so that they are no longer causing any negative effects. Dr. Robinson feels it is essential to understand better one’s world views and early experiences in life because we often hold some long held distorted and unproductive beliefs that are contributing to a current or repeating difficulty. Usually, once these types of beliefs, thoughts, and experiences are identified, examined, and healed, her clients experience major improvements in many areas like mood, self-esteem, and relationships. In addition to this exploration and healing of past traumas and/or painful situations, Dr. Robinson teaches her clients many practical techniques. Cognitive behavioral skill building is a fundamental part of psychotherapy as often clients haven’t been equipped with the proper tools to help them navigate the difficult and complex situations that life sometimes presents. Skills such as becoming mindful of one’s own automatic thoughts and learning to replace them with healthy, alternate thoughts are extremely helpful in improving mood whether it’s depression, anxiety/worry, fear, or anger. Dr. Robinson believes in providing her clients with a healing experience in psychotherapy and equipping them with skills that will benefit them throughout their life.
