Dr. Sophia Robinson is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 1995 and has been working in the field of mental health for 26 years. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Robinson is trained to diagnose and treat all psychological disorders. Dr. Robinson has also had a wide range of clinical experiences and has treated individuals with many different mental health issues. She has worked in schools, hospitals, community mental health centers, home based services, correctional facilities, as well as private practice. She also ran a county based program assisting Medi-Cal beneficiaries to access their mental health benefits and monitored the quality of their treatment, often providing education to the mental health providers that contracted with the county to provide these services. Dr. Robinson also was responsible to ensure that the program was meeting State guidelines and met regularly with state mental health officials. Her program was ranked highly among the 58 California counties. These experiences, in combination with her training, enables her to treat with competency many different mental health and emotional issues. Dr. Robinson’s main specialty is in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders for children and adults.
Dr. Robinson provides psychotherapy to individuals (children, adolescents and adults), families, and couples utilizing psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientations. Dr. Robinson finds that blending these orientations and their interventions provides a more comprehensive and effective treatment to her clients.
Additionally, for the last 14 years, Dr. Robinson has been providing her clients with EEG neurofeedback to further facilitate her clients in reaching their treatment goals as well as to assist those clients, who for various reasons, strive to become medication free or reduce the amount of medication they are taking. Dr. Robinson believes that while medication can play a role in the treatment of psychological disorders, the over- reliance on pharmaceuticals can cause more harm than good. This was the catalyst for Dr. Robinson to receive the advanced training in neurofeedback which she has since incorporated into her practice.
Dr. Robinson also provides Christian counseling services for her clients who desire that their faith values and beliefs be incorporated in their treatment and she is an approved mental health provider for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. Dr. Robinson is very active in her parish where she regularly participates in several ministries.
Though Dr. Robinson completed her doctorate in 1992, she keeps her psychotherapy and neurofeedback skills updated by attending professional courses yearly.
